Overview of the Role

We are looking to hire a full-time Linux & Backup Administrator. In this role, you will be responsible for managing Linux-based infrastructure while also designing, implementing, and maintaining backup and disaster recovery solutions. You will ensure the availability, performance, and security of systems and critical organizational data.

 

Key Responsibilities

Linux Administration

· Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (physical & virtual).

· Monitor system performance, availability, and security.

· Perform system patching, upgrades, and troubleshooting.

· Manage users, permissions, and access control.

· Configure and maintain system services (web servers, databases, etc.).

· Automate routine tasks using shell scripting (Bash/Python).

· Manage storage, file systems, and disk performance.

· Work with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, etc.).

 

Backup & Recovery Management

· Implement and manage backup solutions for critical systems and data.

· Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies.

· Monitor backup jobs and ensure successful execution.

· Perform data restoration and recovery operations when required.

· Troubleshoot backup-related issues and optimize performance.

· Enforce backup policies and retention schedules.

· Ensure data protection and compliance with organizational standards.

 

Disaster Recovery & Security

· Develop and maintain disaster recovery (DR) plans.

· Conduct periodic DR drills and testing.

· Implement system hardening and security best practices.

· Secure backup infrastructure and sensitive data.

 

Monitoring, Automation & Collaboration

· Implement monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, etc.).

· Generate reports on system health and backup status.

· Collaborate with IT, DevOps, and cloud teams.

· Support cloud-based Linux environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

· Participate in system optimization and capacity planning.

 

Documentation

· Maintain detailed documentation for systems, backups, and procedures.

· Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs).

 

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or a related field.

· Minimum 1 years of experience in Linux Administration and/or Backup Administration.

· Strong experience with Linux distributions (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu).

· Experience with backup tools (Veeam, Veritas, or similar).

· Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python is a plus).

· Solid understanding of storage systems and data protection.

· Good knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, SSH).

· Experience with virtualization technologies.

· Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

· Knowledge of monitoring and performance tuning.

· Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

· Good communication and teamwork abilities.

 

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).

· Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

· Certifications such as:

o RHCSA / RHCE

o Back-up-related certifications (Veeam, etc.)
