The Egyptian state has taken serious steps towards the transformation of the green economy to overcome the effects of climate change.

It is the research that previously won the first place in the research presented during the joint student conference that was held last May in partnership between Al-Nahda University in Beni Suef and Cairo University under the slogan “Egypt the Future, Opportunities and Challenges – Climate Change Egypt 2022”, as part of Al-Nahda University’s efforts to educate its students about the importance of the changes file. Climate and Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 Climate Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh

Prof. Hossam Al-Malahi indicated that the university’s participation in the COP27 Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Sharm El-Sheikh comes within the university’s support for Egypt’s strategic vision 2030 and the United Nations sustainable development goals, by focusing on the environmental dimension as one of the main axes that the university is working to achieve within the framework of Cooperation with the executive bodies in Beni Suef Governorate, and by expanding the circle of participation among Youth in developing visions to solve the crises facing Egypt and the world, including the impact of climate change on the life activities of people and the need to rely on sustainable energy resources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and Achieving climate justice between the major industrialized countries that contribute the most to emissions and the developing countries that contribute the least and are most affected by climate change, which are in dire need of urgent funding for plans to adapt to the effects of extreme climatic phenomena.

Al-Malahi pointed out that the research, in which Al-Nahda University participated, supports the national vision for climate change, Egypt 2050, and presents how to adapt to the effects of climate change through sustainable energy resources and the transition to green economy projects, The most prominent of which is the transformation of Egypt into a center for the production and export of green hydrogen, which is the fuel of the future for humanity, in addition to increasing reliance on clean energy resources such as electricity and natural gas, to achieve the goals of sustainable development by adopting a flexible and low-emissions approach.

For his part, the student Ali Abdel-Aal, the author of the research participating in the activities of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research at the COP27 Climate Summit, confirmed that the research dealt with the executive steps that Egypt needs to implement to achieve the transition towards a green economy, in addition to reviewing the steps that Egypt has taken towards transformation so far, such as increasing Relying on natural gas as one of the most important axes for the transformation of the green economy, as well as the Suez Canal Economic Zone project, which prepares the Egyptian International to be a global center for the production and export of green hydrogen.

He added that the research shed light on the achievement achieved by the Egyptian state by achieving a surplus in electricity production after a large deficit in production for years, which contributed to the transformation of Egypt into a global energy center through electrical interconnection projects. This was followed by other important steps, such as developing a strategy for Egypt to be a center for the electric car industry in the Middle East and Africa, and putting up green bonds as the first country in the Middle East to seek financing for sustainable development projects concerned with reducing greenhouse gas emissions to counter the rise in global temperatures.
