Orthodontic – Periodontology

The Continuing Education and Training Center at the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine organized the Teaching Assistants Scientific Day 2024 under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Suzan Saif-Allah – Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Mofty – Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Affairs, and Dr. Khaled Al-Saudi – Director of the Continuing Education and Training Center. A large number of students, interns, graduates, and faculty members attended the event, which was sponsored by Sensodyne. The event featured three lectures as follows: First Lecture: Titled “Orthodontic Tips in Daily Dental Practice” presented by Dr. Amir Salem – demonstrator in the Department of Orthodontics. The lecture covered cases treated during the mixed dentition phase, methods for bonding and stabilizing braces, as well as the differences between gum treatment cases and orthodontic cases, along with tips to avoid future orthodontic issues. Second Lecture: Titled “Beyond Wrinkles: Exploring the Diverse Applications of Botox in the Face” presented by Dr. Arwa Alaa El-Din – demonstrator in the Department of Periodontics. The lecture provided an overview of the history of Botox, its effects on facial muscles, the anatomical description of facial muscles, various lines that appear on the face, and the uses of Botox in facial esthetics. It also discussed indications and contraindications, ending with a discussion of some cases treated with Botox.

Third Lecture: Titled “Socket Shield Technique” presented by Dr. Mohamed Ahmed –demonstrator in the Department of Periodontics. The lecture focused on immediate implant placement using the socket shield technique, protocols and timing for implant procedures, immediate implant placement after tooth extraction, and advanced techniques used to preserve tissues during immediate implant placement to provide the best possible treatment outcomes

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery – Periodontology – Implantology

In pursuit of building a sustainable and advanced healthcare sector to make Africa a continental hub for innovation and trade in the field of health, free workshops were organized on the sidelines of the largest medical exhibition and conference in Africa “Africia Health ExCon 2024”. The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency President/ Abdel Fattah El-Sisi — President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, at the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Nahda University. First Workshop Title: “Blood derivative-platelets rich fibrin (PRF). The “Holy Water” in hands of the dentist: The Maxillofacial and Periodontal point of view”. Presented by Prof. Dr. Hossam Barghash — Visiting Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Lübeck, Germany, and Nahda University. Dr. Eman Magdy — Lecturer of Oral Medicine, Periodontology, and Diagnosis at the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Nahda University and Beni-Suef University. Second Workshop Title: “Revolutionizing Implant Dentistry: Digital Advancements in Implantology”. Presented by Dr. Abdel Rahman Khalaf — Lecturer in the Department of Periodontology and Implantology, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Assiut University.

The workshops are conducted under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Suzan Saif-Allah Ibrahim, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Mofty — Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Affairs, and Dr. Khaled Al-Saudi — Director of the Continuing Education and Training Center and sponsored by Shining 3D Dental.

Endodontics

Ramadan Online Webinar titled “Retreatment: A Short Guide for the Removal of Root Canal Filling Material” was held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Suzan Saif-Allah Ibrahim – Dean of Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Mofty – Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Affairs, and Dr. Khaled Al-Saudi – Director of the Continuing Education and Training Center. The webinar was be presented by Dr. Mohamed Taher – Lecturer of Endodontics at the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, Nahda University.

Effective removal of root canal filling material is crucial for the success of retreatment cases. During the online webinar, it was highlighted that combining mechanical techniques with chemical agents and employing advanced tools can substantially enhance treatment outcomes. Proper case selection, employing meticulous techniques, and ensuring thorough cleaning are key components of successful root canal retreatment.

Implantology

The Continuing Education and Training Center at the Faculty of Oral and Dental Medicine, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Suzan Saif-Allah Ibrahim, Dean of the college, Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Mofty – Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Affairs, and Dr. Khaled Al-Saudi – Director of the Continuing Education and Training Center, organized the “Basics of Dental Implantology 2024” course. The event was sponsored by Next Dental Company for six days, aimed at enhancing essential skills to improve the competencies of students, interns, and graduates in patient care, as well as addressing the evolving needs of modern dentistry. The course included lectures covering an introduction to dental implants, diagnosis, treatment planning, solutions for managing bone resorption and gum recession before or alongside implant placement, components of implant systems, surgical protocols, soft tissue management, and both fixed and removable restorations. Additionally, a detailed workshop was held on using imaging software to design and create surgical guides for implant placement. The program also featured live-demo on patient of an immediate implant surgery and another procedure involving sinus lift and bone grafting.

Throughout the course, the following distinguished speakers contributed: Dr. Mohamed Adel – Lecturer in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, presented on days one and four. Dr. Mostafa Mahmoud – Lecturer in Oral Radiology, spoke on day two. Prof. Dr. Mohamed El-Mofty – Professor of Periodontology and Implantology and Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Affairs, lectured on day three. Dr. Ali AlSourori – Lecturer of Removable Prosthodontics, presented on day five. Assist. Prof. Ehab Fargaly – Assistant Professor of Fixed Prosthodontics, conducted the final session on day six.
